Parents In Christ

Parents in Christ is more than “just a play group.”  We are a group of parents dedicated to raising our families to know, love and serve God in all that we do.  We meet each Monday; however, we have outside activities to which include the entire family or a much needed moms’ night out!  Our model is the Holy Family and our favorite quote is, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  Matthew 19 vs 14.

Although our main ministry is to provide
time for mothers and fathers to get
together and let the children play, our goal
is to form authentic friendships and to help
one another by sharing the light that God
gave to each of us to share with one
another.  We do this by being there for one
another, through prayer, or lending a
helping hand when others are in need.

We meet every Monday from 9-11 AM in the Cathedral meeting rooms, following the school schedule.

At each meeting we have time for the children to play, pray or listen to a bible story, and eat.  For the parents, we have coffee, snacks, and this year, we will be having a moms’ devotional time and provide an opportunity to join a book club.

Everyone is welcome to participate; we will take time to pray with the children before we eat and each month we try to learn about a new saint or feast day.

Each month we have an opportunity for our children to go to the nursing home and share their light with the residents.  It is amazing to see how much the residents enjoy talking with our children or simply just watching them be youthful.

Every Friday we provide an opportunity for even the littlest ones to participate in Eucharistic Adoration.  From 9:30-10 AM, Holy Half Hour, we meet in the chapel.  The bells are rung, the children sing a song to Jesus, and prayers are said.  Believe me this is not super quiet, but we try to remain respectful.  The children who have participated really enjoy going to Adoration on Fridays.

Each year, partnered with the Daughters of Isabella, we try to provide a table for the Right to Life Dinner.  Many lives have been touched by attending this event over the past three years.  Various family members recently rode their bikes along the trails to Indian River to raise money for Right to Life.

Meals for moms:  When a member has a new baby, we try to provide at least a week’s worth of meals for the new mom and family.  We understand the commitment it takes to raise a family and the exhaustion that mom is feeling.  We also try to do this if a child is sick or a family is in need.

Social Gatherings:  We have participated in whole family social gatherings, had a royal family ball, went canoeing, weekend potlucks/games, and raised money for various charities.  The charities include: Crop Walk, Relay for Life, New Life Pregnancy Center and Right to Life.

Eucharistic Adoration on Friday

We strive to make real connections and keep in contact with one another outside of playgroup.  We have a group on Facebook, so members new and old can see what we are doing and are welcome to join us anytime, regardless of the children’s’ ages.  We love each and every opportunity to learn from a more seasoned parent or to be there for a parent just starting out.

We are always open to somebody coming in to teach the group something.  Whether this involve parenting, our faith, our health or just plain fun (such as learning how to sew!).
