Communion for the Gluten Intolerant

For persons who have severe sensitivity to gluten, the option is available to receive the consecrated host in a Church approved low gluten form.  To receive this low gluten alternative, please sit in the section of the church which is center and right of the altar as you enter into the sanctuary through the main doors at the baptismal font.  THIS IS THE ONLY LOCATION FROM WHICH THESE HOSTS WILL BE OFFERED.

As you approach the priest during communion distribution, very briefly tell the priest of your desire for the low gluten host.  He will commune you from a special ciborium containing the low gluten hosts.

In order for this alternative to be valid for communion purposes, the host will have a trace of gluten (.01%).  Please visit the US Catholic Bishops website to find out more information on the Church’s response and requirements concerning gluten intolerance and liturgical norms.
